How a Small Accountability Club Helped Me Finally Hit My Personal OKR Goals

The Goal That Kept Slipping Away

There was one key result in my personal OKRs that just wouldn’t budge for weeks: learn to cook and prepare new dishes together with my wife. Simple enough on paper — yet every review cycle I’d look at it and realize I hadn’t moved an inch.

It wasn’t a matter of motivation. Life just kept filling the space where that goal was supposed to live.

What Our Accountability Club Actually Looks Like

We have what we call a Fight Club — a small accountability club of people from different walks of life who gather every two weeks to share their key achievements against their personal goals. No presentations, no performance. Just honest check-ins.

At the last meeting, I did what I’d done a few times before: admitted I’d made zero progress and promised — out loud, in front of everyone — that I’d actually move on this one before next session.

Why a Public Commitment Changed Everything

That social promise did its job. Knowing I’d have to face the group again with an update was enough to get me off the couch and into the kitchen.

The result: I made real progress on the goal, spent a genuinely great evening cooking with my wife, and — best part — my daughter tasted what we made and said, “Dad, the meat is fire!” That reaction alone was worth every week of procrastination.

Build Your Own Small Mastermind Club

If you want to move toward your goals, create your own accountability clubs. They don’t need to be formal, large, or structured around any particular methodology. A small group, a regular cadence, and the simple pressure of telling people what you’re working on — that’s the whole system.

At some point, with the members’ permission, I’ll write up the insights we’ve gathered in our club. There’s more to share.
