Teaching Children to Think Critically in the AI Age: The Skill Every Parent Must Pass On
We Were the Last Generation That Questioned Everything
We did arithmetic by hand. We navigated with paper maps. We shouted up at windows: “Hey, is Pasha coming out?”
And then we stopped.
Column math gave way to calculators, and then to computers. Paper maps gave way to GPS. Shouting under windows gave way to the internet and social media.
How AI Is Changing What Kids Learn — and What They Miss
Now there is a new shift — AI is taking all of that too.
But we remember how it used to be. Our children, though, already don’t.
Critical Thinking Is the AI Skill Every Kid Needs Now
It seems to me that the defining skill we must pass on to the next generation is the ability to doubt.
To question. To verify. To not take the first answer at face value — whether it comes from a neighbor’s window or a language model.
Teaching Kids AI Skills Through Collaboration, Not Replacement
Here is how to put it into practice: solve problems not instead of AI, but together with it. Compete.
Do the math by hand — then check it with AI. Or the other way around: get the AI answer first, then work it out yourself and compare.
“Hey, is Pasha coming out?” — ask at the window. And also through your AI agent. See what you get.
A Game That Lets Kids Practice Orchestrating AI Agents
If you want a hands-on way for children to learn how to work with AI agents, I built a mini-game specifically for my own kids and I’m giving away free access to anyone who wants it: agents4.kids/landing
(The price listed on the site is there for funnel testing — access is free.)
