Fear of Being Right: The Paradox We Rarely Admit

An Unexpected Discovery

I came across an audiobook by Evgeny Grishkovets. Highly recommend it — especially in audio format. My personal favorite is Chapter 8. If you listen to it, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

What the Book Is About

Here’s my brief impression: Evgeny does what he always does — explores the theme of fears in a language everyone somehow understands. Parts of it are melancholic, parts are funny, and some moments make you stop and think.

The Grishkovets Effect

There’s something about his work that lingers. You listen or read — and then spend the next three days generating your own little sketches about life, in his style. I’m not going to resist that impulse. So let me add my own fear to the collection.

The Fear of Being Right — The One Nobody Talks About

Being wrong is frightening. That part is obvious, everyone gets it.

But far more frightening is the moment when you turn out to be right — especially about the very thing you most desperately did not want to be right about.
